“Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles” (Proverbs 21:23, NKJV). This verse ties two things together that we might not naturally connect: careful speech and a soul kept from trouble.
So much unnecessary trouble in relationships and reputation traces back to words that weren’t guarded carefully before they were spoken.
Guarding isn’t the same as never speaking honestly. It’s the discipline of actually considering words before releasing them.
