“Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law” (Proverbs 29:18, NKJV). Without a clear sense of God’s truth guiding them, people tend to drift, casting off restraint rather than living with any real order.
This isn’t an argument for rigid legalism. It’s an observation that a life anchored in God’s revealed truth tends to hold together in ways an unanchored life doesn’t.
Restraint, in this light, isn’t a burden imposed from outside. It’s the natural fruit of actually seeing clearly what’s true and good.
