“Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm” (Matthew 8:26, NKJV). Jesus addresses the fear before addressing the storm, though He handles both.
The disciples’ fear was reasonable, a genuine storm, real danger. Jesus doesn’t dismiss the reality of the threat. He questions the size of their faith relative to it.
The calm that follows isn’t gradual. It’s immediate and total, a great calm, once Jesus speaks into the situation directly.
