“Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11, NKJV). This request, part of the Lord’s Prayer, asks for daily provision, not a lifetime’s worth stockpiled in advance.
That daily framing is worth noticing. It teaches ongoing dependence, asking again tomorrow rather than securing enough today to stop asking.
This can feel uncomfortable in a culture that prizes accumulated security over daily dependence. Jesus’ model prayer doesn’t ask for a stockpile.
What would it look like to actually pray this request today, genuinely trusting for today’s provision rather than anxiously securing tomorrow’s on your own?
