“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart… and love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39, NKJV). Jesus names these two commands as the foundation everything else in the law hangs on.
Notice the order. Love for God comes first, and love for neighbor follows, not as a separate obligation, but as an outworking of the first.
As yourself is worth noticing too. This isn’t asking for a love greater than what you’d want for yourself, just an equal regard, extended outward.
