“A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken” (Proverbs 15:13, NKJV). What’s happening in the heart doesn’t usually stay hidden. It surfaces, one way or another, in the countenance.
This isn’t a call to fake cheerfulness over real sorrow. It’s an honest observation that the heart’s condition tends to become visible, whether we intend it to or not.
That’s worth remembering both in reading others and in being honest about ourselves. A forced cheerful face doesn’t always match what’s actually happening underneath.
What has your own countenance been revealing lately about the actual state of your heart?
