“He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13, NKJV). Covering here means concealment, managing the appearance of things rather than dealing honestly with what’s actually wrong.
Notice the verse requires both confessing and forsaking. Confession alone, without any actual change, isn’t quite what’s described here. It’s naming the sin honestly and turning away from it.
Mercy is the promise attached to that combination. Not to concealment, which this verse says leads nowhere good, but to honest confession paired with genuine turning.
