“The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness” (Zephaniah 3:17, NKJV). This verse describes more than rescue. It describes God’s actual delight, rejoicing over His people with gladness.
That’s a striking picture for anyone who imagines God as primarily disappointed or exasperated. Gladness, not grudging tolerance, is the emotion described here.
In your midst suggests nearness, not distant oversight. This is a God present and rejoicing, not simply watching from far away.
If your picture of God has been more disappointed than glad, this verse is worth letting reshape that picture back toward what’s actually true.
