“But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works” (Psalm 73:28, NKJV). This verse closes a psalm that wrestled honestly with envy and confusion over why the wicked seem to prosper.

After all that wrestling, the conclusion is simple: nearness to God is good, regardless of whether every question got fully resolved.

That I may declare all Your works points outward too. Nearness to God isn’t only personal comfort, it becomes something worth telling others about.

“My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart And my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26, NKJV). This verse doesn’t pretend the psalmist is strong. It openly admits failure, of body and heart both, before pointing to where real strength comes from.

There’s something freeing in that honesty. So much of our culture rewards projecting strength we don’t actually have. This verse models a different way: admit the failing plainly, then point past yourself.

God as portion forever is a striking phrase. Not a temporary boost to get through a hard week, but a permanent inheritance that doesn’t run out when our own strength does.
