“Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us” (Psalm 62:8, NKJV). Pour out your heart suggests full release, not a carefully edited version, but the whole of what’s actually inside.

This kind of honesty in prayer can feel risky, exposing frustration, doubt, or grief without cleaning it up first. This verse invites exactly that kind of unfiltered honesty.

Refuge is the reason given for this kind of trust. Not a distant judge evaluating the quality of your prayer, but a genuine refuge for whatever you actually bring.

“Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation” (Psalm 62:1, NKJV). Silence isn’t our default response to waiting. Most of us fill waiting with noise, worry, planning, and rehearsing worst-case scenarios.

David describes something different here: a soul that’s actually quiet in the waiting, not because the situation is resolved, but because he trusts where his salvation is coming from.

That kind of stillness isn’t passive resignation. It’s confidence, settled enough that it doesn’t need to fill the silence with anxious noise.
