“I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me” (Proverbs 8:17, NKJV). Wisdom speaks in the first person throughout this chapter, and here she promises herself to those who seek diligently.

Diligently rules out casual, occasional searching. This is sustained effort, not a single half-hearted attempt abandoned quickly.

The promise is direct: will find me. Not might, not eventually maybe, but a genuine promise attached to genuine diligence.

How diligent has your own pursuit of wisdom actually been lately, casual and occasional, or sustained enough to actually expect finding what you’re seeking?

“For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her” (Proverbs 8:11, NKJV). Rubies here stand in for anything valuable and desirable. Wisdom, this verse says, outranks all of it.

That’s a hard sell in a culture that tends to measure value in more visible, tangible terms. Wisdom doesn’t sparkle the way rubies do, and its value often only becomes clear over time.

This isn’t dismissing material things as worthless. It’s simply ranking wisdom above them, a ranking most of us don’t actually live by day to day.
