“My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom” (Proverbs 2:1-2, NKJV). Receive and treasure are active verbs here, not passive hearing, but genuine reception and safekeeping.

There’s a difference between information that passes through and wisdom that’s actually treasured, kept close enough to shape future decisions.

Inclining the ear suggests posture, leaning in deliberately rather than half-listening while distracted by something else.

How much of the wisdom you’ve heard recently has actually been treasured, versus simply passing through without taking root?

“For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6, NKJV). Wisdom, in this verse, isn’t something we manufacture through enough effort or experience alone. It’s something given, sourced in God Himself.

That’s an important distinction from mere information. You can accumulate facts on your own. Wisdom, the ability to rightly apply what you know, has a different origin.

This doesn’t dismiss study or experience. It reframes them as the means through which God’s wisdom is received, not achievements in themselves.

Where are you currently trying to manufacture wisdom through sheer effort, when this verse suggests asking for it might be the more direct path?
