“The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself” (Proverbs 11:25, NKJV). Watering someone else, in this image, doesn’t leave the giver dry. It somehow circles back to water them too.

This isn’t a formula guaranteeing financial return for every generous act. It’s a broader picture of how generosity tends to enrich the giver, not just the receiver.

It’s worth noticing how often generosity feels like loss in the moment, and how often, over time, it turns out to have been an investment instead.

Who could you water today, trusting that the generous soul, according to this verse, doesn’t end up dry for the effort?

“When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom” (Proverbs 11:2, NKJV). This verse pairs two things that rarely get connected: pride and shame, humility and wisdom. It suggests they’re not separate outcomes, but a direct sequence.

Pride tends to overestimate what we know and underestimate what we don’t. That combination is a setup for a fall, since reality has a way of eventually correcting an inflated sense of certainty.

Humility works differently. It leaves room to be corrected, to learn, to admit what’s still unknown, and that posture is exactly where wisdom tends to grow.

It’s worth asking honestly where pride might be setting up a future shame you haven’t seen coming yet, and where a little more humility might make room for wisdom instead.
