“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9, NKJV). Faithful and just describes God’s response to confession, not reluctant or grudging, but reliably true to His own character.
All unrighteousness rules out partial cleansing. This isn’t a promise to address some sins while leaving others unresolved.
The condition is simple: confess. Not elaborate penance or extended self-punishment, just honest naming of what’s actually there.
What sin have you been carrying without actually confessing it honestly, that this verse promises complete forgiveness and cleansing for?
