“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land” (Exodus 20:12, NKJV). This commandment comes with a promise attached, one of the few in the Ten Commandments that does.
Honor here doesn’t require perfect parents or an easy relationship. It’s a posture of respect and care that can be extended even amid complicated history.
This is worth revisiting as an adult, not just a childhood rule. Honoring parents looks different at different life stages, but the call doesn’t expire with age.
What would honoring your parents, whatever your relationship with them currently looks like, actually require of you this week?
