“For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight” (Ecclesiastes 2:26, NKJV). All three of these, wisdom, knowledge, and joy, are described here as given, not self-generated through sheer effort alone.
That’s a helpful corrective for anyone treating these as purely the product of enough hard work or willpower. They’re named here as gifts, received rather than manufactured.
As this month closes, it’s worth taking stock of which of these three, wisdom, knowledge, or joy, feels most present in your life right now, and thanking God for it as a gift rather than an achievement.
Which of these three do you most need right now, and have you actually asked God for it as the gift this verse describes, rather than trying to produce it yourself?
