“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29, NKJV). A yoke isn’t the image most of us associate with rest. It’s a tool for work, for pulling weight alongside another animal.
That’s exactly the point. Jesus doesn’t offer rest by removing all labor. He offers rest by inviting us to carry it alongside Him, learning His pace instead of grinding through at our own.
Notice how He describes Himself here: gentle and lowly in heart. Not distant, not demanding, not impossible to please. That description should change how we imagine the load He’s inviting us to share.
If your soul is tired right now, this verse doesn’t promise an empty schedule. It promises a different kind of yoke, one carried with Him rather than alone.
