“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NKJV). Life isn’t one flat, unchanging state. It moves in seasons, and each one has its own purpose, even the ones we wouldn’t choose.
Ecclesiastes has a reputation for being blunt about life’s frustrations, and this verse is no exception. But rather than despairing over change, the Preacher is naming something true: seasons come and go by design, not by accident, and there’s a purpose in each one even when we can’t see it yet.
If you’re in a hard season right now, waiting, grief, uncertainty, this verse doesn’t rush you past it. It gives you permission to actually be in the season you’re in, instead of constantly straining toward the next one.
The seasons of life are in God’s hands, not out of His control. Trusting His timing doesn’t mean liking every season. It means believing there’s a purpose even in the ones that are hard to understand.
