“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV). Not partial trust, not trust as a backup plan. All your heart. That’s a high bar, and it’s meant to be.
Here’s why it’s hard: our own understanding usually feels safer. We can see it, measure it, control it. Trusting something we can’t fully see or control, even God, runs against our instinct to secure our own footing first.
Practically, this looks like naming the decision or worry you’re currently trying to work out entirely on your own, and asking whether you’ve actually invited God into it, or just asked Him to bless the plan you’d already made.
The promise that follows is worth holding onto: when we acknowledge Him in our ways, He directs our paths. Not always the path we’d have chosen, but the one that’s actually good for us.
