“These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me” (Matthew 15:8, NKJV). Jesus quotes this as a warning against religious performance, words and lips that outpace the actual condition of the heart.
This isn’t a condemnation of ritual or spoken worship itself. It’s a warning about the gap that can grow between what’s said and what’s actually true underneath.
